I am developing a distinct taste for Joking Apart, Steven Moffat’s clever, anguished black comedy about marriage failure. The pilot, which was shown last year, was a strange, unnerving piece of sitcom, and I wondered at the time if it could be extended to a full series. But last night’s follow up was exceptionally funny, and it’s interesting to see the slight changes of emphasis that have obviously had to be made. The roles of Tracy and Robert, the best friends, have developed and Robert Bathurst’s Mark Taylor has already been rendered sympathetic, a remarkable turnaround. One to watch – not least to see what happens next.
